Approaching Digital Interfaces, Social Media and Multimodality from the French Context - altereffekt.
Happy to share the publication of my chapter in Routledge Books Studies in Multimodality volume, “Approaching Digital Interfaces, Social Media and Multimodality from the French Context”, edited by Fiona Rossette-Crake:

In my chapter, “Implied meaning in interface icons: A framework for digital visual interaction”, I explore how interface icons communicate meanings beyond their visual appearance by adapting Gricean implicature to the visual domain. Drawing on semiotics and French (post)structuralist theory, I examine how users interpret icons through context, cultural conventions, and broader intertextual associations within digital environments.

This publication comes from the proceedings of the October 2024 “Social Semiotics and Social Media” conference at Paris Nanterre University. Thankful for the opportunity to contribute to this volume and very pleased with the outcome.
